CHAPLAINCY SA UNIFORM, INSIGNIA & DRESS CODE
Purpose of the dress code
The Chaplaincy SA dress code helps members present a consistent, professional identity while serving. The uniform and approved social dress make the organisation recognisable and reflect its commitment to service. Wearing Chaplaincy SA clothing also carries responsibility: members are expected to act with dignity, compassion and respect. Dress should always be appropriate to the occasion, the setting and the person’s role. Clothing or insignia does not give anyone authority beyond their appointment, training or permission to enter a particular place.

Official uniform
Registered members should wear the official uniform only when authorised and in accordance with Chaplaincy SA’s current guidelines. The uniform should be clean, neat, presentable and worn correctly. Members should check that it is suitable for the duty or event and follow any additional instructions provided by Chaplaincy SA or the host organisation. If unsure about the required dress for an assignment, ask an authorised leader before attending. The uniform must not be used to imply authority or qualifications that the member does not hold.

Professional appearance
Members are expected to maintain a tidy appearance and suitable personal grooming when representing Chaplaincy SA. The uniform should be kept in good condition and worn without unauthorised alterations, additions or wording. Members should dress in a way that shows respect for the people they serve and the setting they are entering. A professional appearance is supported by courteous communication and responsible behaviour; clothing alone does not establish trust. Where a host facility has its own dress, safety or access requirements, members must follow them.

Social dress and programme golf shirtsSocial dress is suitable for informal gatherings, community events and occasions where the official uniform is not required. Chaplaincy SA volunteers and Spiritual Crime Prevention Ambassadors may wear approved Chaplaincy SA golf shirts when representing the organisation at authorised activities. Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and Junior Rangers wear specially designed Chaplaincy SA golf shirts for their approved programme activities. These shirts should be worn neatly and appropriately for the event and setting. Everyone wearing them is expected to represent Chaplaincy SA with courtesy and respect. Official rank, badges or insignia should not be added to ordinary clothing unless authorised. Members should also respect the dress requirements of any organisation hosting the event.

Badges, insignia and rank
The Chaplaincy SA badge and insignia identify the organisation and a member’s authorised role. Members should wear only the approved badge, rank and insignia assigned to them, and display them according to current guidance. Badges and insignia must not be borrowed, altered or supplemented with unofficial wording or emblems. Accurate insignia helps prevent confusion and supports public confidence. A badge or rank does not replace required training, appointment, access permission or the rules of a facility.

Conduct while representing Chaplaincy SA
Members, volunteers, ambassadors and Junior Rangers represent Chaplaincy SA whenever they wear the uniform or approved programme golf shirt. They should communicate calmly, treat people fairly and follow the guidance that applies to their role. The uniform or golf shirt must never be used to intimidate, pressure or mislead another person, or to claim authority that has not been granted. They should follow the procedures for their activity and the instructions of the host organisation.
